We have never been much for “best of” lists but it’s crucial to support the people/things that inspired you.

2011 was huge for us on a domestic level. Uprooting our lives and relocating to Chicago has infinitely changed our perspectives on love and life. We didn’t get to release as much work as we wanted to this past year, but we spent more time working on ourselves as individuals, hopefully that will reflect in our upcoming work. Life is hectic, always forever. Here are some things that moved us this year:

Night of Joy – Hardcore Girls Are A Hoax
This record is so fresh sounding. We are in awe of Night of Joy, Hardcore Girls makes us fall in love with life and music. Also makes me wish I could skateboard again. It’s like weed for the ears.

Alphabets – soundtrack for “alice invents a litte game and alice always wins”
We’ve known Colin Ward since he was a wee tudalooing teenager, he changed the game back then. Consistently inspiring while being inspired, alphabets has forever been indescribable. Now alongside Stephan Herrera the duo is making some of the best music/art we have ever experienced.

MMCIII and his Infinity Machine
MMCIII blew our minds this year! We were so fortunate to tour the west coast with him and watch him blow other people’s minds with his Infinity Machine. He is a true renaissance man, we’re pretty convinced he’s an alien angel placed on earth to change our destructive paths.

Laser Palace Roundrobin/Hideous Men Farewell show
This was a really beautiful moment in 2011. We’re so grateful for our community in Denver and all the effort everyone put in to make this happen. So many incredible artists were involved and for us it was a huge reminder of why we started Hideous Men and why we stay active and involved.

Damn Gurl
Although we didn’t stay in Denver long enough to see Damn Gurl really flourish, the first couple events were really inspiring. The concept is incredible, and we will forever support ANY all ages queer focused/friendly event. We’re so happy to see it blow up and sustain itself!

Morton Subotnick @ Neonmarshmallow
Morton Subotnick is a huge inspiration to us. Seeing him perform live this past year was by far my favorite live performance I’ve ever experienced. It was perfect. So dynamic and humbling. It really changed my perspective on what live sound can achieve and inspired us to strive to be better artists and musicians.

THE INTERNET
Once again the internet is killing it. A constant game changer/banger/jammer/emotional roller coaster for us. Seriously though, without the internet we would be forced to sea each other IRL spreading disease and uncomfortable silences. Fuck that. Internet for life always and forever. <3

We are officially in Chicago! Southside-firefly-thug-entrancer-lake-stylers! To paraphase our experience thus far. Now to shut ourselves in and finish this record. In the meantime if you haven’t delved into this record I recommend it:

Chicago Bound

We are making our slow escape to Chicago over the summer. Before we do that we have a west coast tour in mind along side MMCIII. More information as it unfolds. Our full length has been pushed back because of all of this sudden change, expect something near the beginning of fall. <3 Also June 24th will be our last show at Rhinoceropolis for a long time, it's going to be epic!
